Throughout my experience at SAX Design, one of the most enlightening projects in terms of working with a large company has been the one with Bihler. Bihler is one of the world's leading manufacturers of stamping, bending, welding and assembly systems, with a 70-year history. This time we took on the creative challenge of working on the VW UP! GTI. After extensive discussions on the concept, guidelines, materials and obtaining the necessary resources from the customer, we embarked on the project and completed it within a week.

Following the concept of a company specialising in industrial equipment for the manufacture of complex metal structures, we chose to print the main design elements on 3M Silver Film, coated with a matte laminate to convey the texture of unpolished aluminium. All branding elements and key accents on the bodywork were created using blue chrome film, which presented a particular challenge due to the material's layered complexity. Attention to detail was paramount: metal bending tools integrated into the design and printed on chrome foil were also coated with a matt laminate. However, their working parts were covered separately with glossy film to preserve the mirrored surface.
